Our Ethos

At our forest school nursery, we believe in fostering an environment where children thrive through meaningful experiences in nature and within the nursery. Our ethos revolves around nurturing resilience, encouraging risk-taking, fostering confident communication, promoting physical independence, and building strong relationships. Here's how we embed these values:

1.    Resilience: We understand that resilience is key for navigating life's challenges. In our forest school, children are encouraged to explore their surroundings, try new activities, and overcome obstacles. Whether it's climbing a tree, navigating a muddy path, or persisting through a difficult task, we provide a supportive environment where children can learn to bounce back from setbacks and develop inner strength.

2.    Risk-taking: We believe that taking risks is essential for growth and learning. Our forest school nursery provides opportunities for children to engage in adventurous play, such as climbing, balancing, and exploring natural features. By allowing children to assess and manage risks in a safe setting, we empower them to develop confidence in their abilities and judgement.

3.    Confident communicators: Effective communication is a cornerstone of success in life. We encourage children to express themselves freely through verbal and non-verbal means. Whether it's sharing discoveries with peers, negotiating play scenarios, or expressing emotions, we support children in developing their communication skills in a natural and authentic way.

4.    Physically independent: Independence is nurtured through the freedom to explore and engage with the environment. In our forest school nursery, children have the space and autonomy to move, play, and learn at their own pace. From tying shoelaces to carrying out tasks independently in the outdoor setting, we empower children to develop the physical skills and confidence they need to navigate the world around them.

5.    Building relationships: Strong relationships form the foundation of a supportive community. Through collaborative activities, group adventures, and shared experiences in nature, children at our forest school nursery learn the value of cooperation, empathy, and respect for others. We foster a sense of belonging and connection, encouraging children to build meaningful relationships with their peers, educators, and the natural world.
